Take another quick glance at your Facebook wall while out and about, read the latest tweets, or listen in to your favourite Web radio station - BMW Apps for your vehicl ecombine the flexibility of your iPhone™ with the operating comfort of BMW iDrive.

You install a compatible app - "BMW Connected" for example - on your iPhone and then connect it via the USB interface with the iDrive of your BMW. BMW Apps has been specially developed for the iDrive user interface. This allows you to operate all the functions for the selected app safely and conveniently using the iDrive Controller of your BMW.

The range starts with the "BMW Connected" app in the App Store and contains the following functionalities:

• Twitter
• Web radio
• Calendar

Additional apps will be available for you in future.

Just because you can do something, it doesn't mean you always have to do it yourself. Park Assist takes on the search for a parking space as well as the parking; you just give the commands.

Ultrasonic sensors in the side indicators search for parking spaces when travelling at speeds of up to 35 km/h, allowing you to keep concentrating on the traffic. Blue arrows indicate if a parking space is available either on the left or the right side of the road. Park Assist takes care of the steering so that all you have to do is select the correct gear and control the accelerator and the brake. Instructions are displayed on the Control Display with Park Distance Control and the image from the Rear View camera. BMW ConnectedDrive not only connects the BMW ActiveHybrid with the outside world, it also simplifies daily life.

Safer night-time driving. BMW Night Vision, an innovation from BMW ConnectedDrive, can see in the dark and warns the driver of any approaching danger that is located outside of the range of the headlights.

An infrared camera positioned in the BMW kidney grille reveals objects up to 300 metres ahead of the vehicle. Pedestrians and cyclists are identified up to 100 metres away and highlighted on the Control Display. Three processors simultaneously calculate all movements outside of the vehicle and the course of the BMW ActiveHybrid 5. In critical situations an acoustic signal and optical warnings indicate the acute hazard: the driver receives a warning on the Control Display or on the Head-Up Display in the form of a symbol that shows the position of the person outside of the vehicle. In this way, the driver can recognize obstacles considerably sooner and thus react in time.
